W220

The W220 S-Class was Mercedes-Benz's flagship from 1998 to 2005, offered as the standard W220 and the long-wheelbase V220. Petrol engines include the M113 V8, while diesel cars use the OM613 five-cylinder or the OM648 straight-six. Airmatic air suspension was standard across the range, and the car introduced a long list of comfort electronics that are now its main repair burden.

Airmatic struts, compressors and valve blocks are the W220's most requested parts, followed by control modules, COMAND units, headlights, mirrors and bumpers. Because the electronics are complex and new parts are costly, used originals from a dismantler are the practical way to keep one of these cars working.
